Expectations for making the JV squad:
There are currently 16 spots available for JV this includes 4 spots for alternates. No one is guaranteed a position and the squad is not only built with cheerleaders who have the skill, but those that have determination, heart, and a GREAT attitude. This team is a preparatory team for those who are interested in making the Varsity squad, but who have not met the requirements as of yet to make the higher level team. This is not to say that you do not have quality attributes, but that you may need fine-tuning in order to be prepared for the next season. If you make the JV squad you will be required to attend every game during the football season and we will continue through the basketball season. You will not be required to attend tumbling; however, it would be a good idea, if you are interested in cheering Varsity next season, to begin private lessons at a local gym. The only stipulation with JV is that if you quit, you will not be allowed to try out for either of the squads the following year. So, be sure that you really want to be on this squad.
Expectations for making the Varsity squad:
We have become a competitive team and therefore it is very competitive to make this squad. Currently, I have 24 spots available. Four of these spots will be for alternates. NO ONE IS GUARANTEED A POSITION, and games will rotate between all 24 members, and I will pick the competition squad from these members. I believe that with Varsity comes great responsibility and our season is extremely long. Be prepared for long, hard practices with all-star like difficulty. Our season stretches from the beginning of July to the end of February, straight through with hardly any breaks and this takes great management of time and grades. You must make THIS TEAM a priority and I will not accept missing my practice for another, nor work. You will have your schedule well in advance and will rarely be changed unless an emergency arises. In regards to academics: they come first and you must always maintain at least a 2.5 grade point average. At any point you do not maintain this, I will remove you from the squad permanently and you will be replaced. If you are in trouble with ISS or OSS, I have the right and power to do the same! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!!!
Just to be sure that you have read our policy on social media, I have copied it below. You will be removed from the team if there is ANYTHING questionable.
It is a responsibility to be a Riverview High School Cheerleader. As a cheerleader you are a student-athlete and a student leader. Any behavior, which does not represent Riverview High School and its cheerleaders in a positive way, is considered reason for termination from the team. You are a Riverview Cheerleader while in the classroom, on the playing field, and in your community. You will be held accountable for your actions at ALL times. Skipping school, public displays of affection, profanity, drug or alcohol use, fighting, and other major offenses will not be tolerated and will be reason for immediate dismissal from the team by the coach. THIS INCLUDES ALL CONDUCT ON SOCIAL MEDIA WEBSITES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO: TWITTER, FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, SNAP CHAT AND TIK TOK. INCLUDING FAKE/SPAM ACCOUNTS AS WELL!! Behavior that is unbecoming of a teenager, appears to be disgracing others (including other teams) or yourself, making you look like something other than what you are, retweeting or posting offensive things (even if they are not your direct words or actions it is representing what you think), and any other social media behavior (including pictures) that the coaches find inappropriate is cause for IMMEDIATE REMOVAL FROM PROGRAM WITH NO CHANCE TO RETURN.
